And then I found Daedal Macabre. Its not as detailed As the others. And mechanically it could be a lot better. But its the community of the game which makes it so awesome! A decent MUD can't function without a cool community. A lot of MMOs are notorious for shitty communities. No one wants to grind quest for ages, and on top of that have a twelve year old telling them that they know every sexual position ever created. Fortunatly it seems that MUDs are devoid of this younger age group. Its not so hard to guess why. At first glance a MUD looks as though its stepped back into the dark ages of DOS. Kids are going to compare this with the graphics of WoW and suddenly realize that MUDs are like school text books. While WoW looks like the latest Xmen comic.
The school text book has as much fun in it as a comic book does believe it or not. Whats the point on having a medieval world if your not going to act as though your in one. The roleplay aspect is so much fun.
Questing in Daedal can be regular, like your used to. Go over and kill someone. Go fetch me a rare gem from such and such. Or you can do investigations and take part in epic battles that help to further the plot line. It always pissed me off how Maple Stories catch phrase was like "Make your own story." How? Nothing you ever did made maple story any different. You couldn't make your mark on the world unless you could vac ac the entire world into one corner and kill everyone with one stroke. Oh wait, you can't PK. Boo.
But with Daedal you could actually become more than average and a necessary part to the game by doing the custom made quests that change according to what you do.
Fuckin check it out!
